Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
