The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
