Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
