He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 You pay full attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And he feareth 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
