When We said to the angels, "Prostrate yourselves before Adam," they all prostrated themselves, except for Satan, who refused, 116 Then We said: "O Adam! Verily, this is an enemy to you and to your wife. So let him not get you both out of Paradise, so that you be distressed in misery. 117 It is assuredly given to thee neither to hunger therein, nor to go naked, 118 And that you shall not be thirsty therein nor shall you feel the heat of the sun. 119 Satan, trying to seduce him, said, "Adam, do you want me to show you the Tree of Eternity and the Everlasting Kingdom?" 120 Then they twain ate thereof, so that their shame became apparent unto them, and they began to hide by heaping on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And Adam disobeyed his Lord, so went astray. 121 Thereafter his Lord chose him, and turned again unto him, and He guided him. 122 [Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise - all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter]. 123 But he who fails to heed My warning will have his means restricted; and on the Day of Resurrection We shall raise him blind." 124 He will say: O my Lord! why hast Thou gathered me sightless whereas surely I have been a seer. 125 He will say, “Similarly did Our signs come to you but you forgot them; and in the same way, nobody will heed you today.” 126 For, thus shall We recompense him who wastes his own self and does not believe in his Sustainer's messages: and indeed, the suffering [of such sinners] in the life to come shall be most severe and most enduring! 127 Is it not a guidance to them, how many generations We destroyed before them in whose dwelling-places they walk? Surely in that are signs for men possessing reason. 128
