And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 Then a fish swallowed him, and he was blameworthy. 142 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us), 143 He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (folk) or more 147 And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while. 148 Now ask them (O Muhammad): Hath thy Lord daughters whereas they have sons? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement? 154 Will you not, then, bethink yourselves? 155 Or, do you have a clear authority? 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him). 158 Glory be to Allah (for freedom) from what they describe; 159 Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted. 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 except those who will burn in Hell. 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” – 168 Surely we would have been the bondmen of God sincere. 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 And (then) see them, so they too shall see. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When it descends upon their courtyards, evil will be the morning of those forewarned. 177 Withdraw from them awhile 178 and see, soon they shall see! 179 LIMITLESS in His glory is thy Sustainer, the Lord of almightiness, [exalted] above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
