The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
