The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
