۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 “And stop them they are to be questioned.” 24 They will be asked, "Why do you not help each other?" 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 for, behold, whenever they were told, "There is no deity save God," they would glory in their arrogance 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 fruits of various kinds; and they shall be honoured, 42 In the Gardens of delight, 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 They found their father going astray 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers); 72 So behold what wise hath been the end of those who were warned. 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
