The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
