۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 And stop them, for they must be questioned. 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They will answer, “You yourselves did not have faith!” 29 We had no authority over you, in fact, you were a rebellious people. 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray." 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 there is waiting for them a known provision; 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 who would say: "Are you among the believers (of the resurrection)? 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. 57 Are we not then to die 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell; 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
