The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those of the right hand. 38
