Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 Consider the night when it departs, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 A warning to mortals, 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 except those of the right hand 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 About the guilty: 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
