He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
