The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
