The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
