Then, when the Messengers (the angels) came unto the family of Lout (Lot). 61 he said to them: 'I do not know you' 62 "We have come to you with news," they said, "of what your people doubt; 63 We bring you the truth, and indeed we are truthful. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 He said, 'These are my guests; put me not to shame, 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 By your life! In their drunkenness they were truly blind. 72 At sunrise a dreadful Shout seized them. 73 Thus did We turn it upside down, and rained down upon them stones of what had been decreed. 74 Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for those who can read the signs: 75 And verily they are on a pathway lasting. 76 Most surely there is a sign in this for the believers. 77 And indeed the Dwellers of the Woods were unjust. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
