۞ And indeed We bestowed Ibrahim with guidance from the beginning, and We were Aware of him. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
