۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” 22 “Instead of Allah and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 They will be asked, "Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray." 32 Therefore, on that Day they will all share Our punishment. 33 As such We shall deal with the evildoers. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 Facing one another on thrones, 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 Are we not then to die 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 This is indeed the mighty triumph, 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 They found their father going astray 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
