The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
