The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 Recompense fitted! 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
