The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
