He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to a rich man, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
