So when the envoys came to the household of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said: "Nay, we have brought to you that concerning which they have been in doubt. 63 We truly tell you that we have brought to you the Truth. 64 So travel with thy household in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs. Let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are commanded. 65 And We decreed for him that commandment, that the last remnant of those should be cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 He said, 'These are my guests; put me not to shame, 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 They said; Have we not forbidden you from (entertaining) anyone? 70 He said: these are my daughters, if act ye must. 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 Verily there is a Sign in this for the believers. 77 And indeed the Dwellers of the Woods were unjust. 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
