The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Their reckoning has drawn near to men, and in heedlessness are they turning aside. 1 Whenever any fresh admonition comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it, but do not take it seriously; 2 Their hearts trifling; and those who are unjust counsel together in secret: He is nothing but a mortal like yourselves; what! will you then yield to enchantment while you see? 3 He said: My Lord knows what is spoken in the heaven and the earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 4 "Nay," they say, "(these are) medleys of dream! - Nay, He forged it! - Nay, He is (but) a poet! Let him then bring us a Sign like the ones that were sent to (Prophets) of old!" 5 Not a township believed of those which We destroyed before them (though We sent them portents): would they then believe? 6 The messengers that We had sent before you were only men to whom We had given revelation. Ask the People of the Book if you do not know. 7 We did not endow the Messengers with bodies that would need no food; nor were they immortals. 8 Then We made Our promise good to them, so We delivered them and those whom We pleased, and We destroyed the extravagant. 9 We have sent down to you a Book which has a reminder for you. Do you not understand? 10
