The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 for those on the Right, 38
