In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
