The Human (Al-Insan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing. 2 Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; 6 They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. 7 those who, for the love of Him, feed the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 God will certainly rescue them from the terror of that day and will meet them with joy and pleasure. 11 and their reward for being patient will be a Garden and silk [clothing]. 12 There they will recline on elevated couches and will be subjected neither to the burning heat of the sun nor to bitter cold. 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. 15 and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, 16 Therein they shall be served a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 It will be said to them, “This is your reward – indeed your efforts have been appreciated.” 22
