Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
