He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
