Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And the ten nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My servants. 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
