The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In gardens of delight; 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And wide eyed houris 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
