A multitude of those of old 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
