Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
