The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he thought; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
