The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
