The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure, 2 And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), 4 For a tremendous Day - 5 The day when everyone will stand before the Lord Of The Creation. 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what could make thee conceive what that that mode inescapable will be? 8 It is a Book inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth 10 Those who deny the Day of Judgment 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." 13 No. In fact what they have been doing has rusted their hearts. 14 Indeed! On that Day a barrier will be set between them and their Lord, 15 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, 16 Then it shall be said to them, 'This is that you cried lies to.' 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun? 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 witnessed by those who are near (to Allah). 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Bliss; 22 [resting on couches, they will look up [to God]: 23 Thou wilt recognize in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 which have the fragrance of musk. This is the kind of place for which one should really aspire. 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 a spring at which those drawn close to God will drink. 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances. 30 and, on returning to their people, boast about what they had done. 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 And they were not sent to be keepers over them. 33 Wherefore Today, those who believed at the infidels are laughing, 34 On (high) thrones, looking (at all things). 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded for what they did? 36
