The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
