Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
