The 'Aad belied the sent ones. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
