Nay, and by the moon, 32 Consider the night when it departs, 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 A warning to mankind, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
