The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
