We sent a revelation to Moses saying, "Take away My servants by night and strike for them a dry path through the sea. Have no fear of being overtaken and do not be afraid." 77 Then Pharaoh pursued them with his forces, but the waters completely overwhelmed them and covered them up. 78 And Firaun led his people astray, and did not guide them. 79 Children of Israel! We saved you from your enemies and made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mountain. We sent down manna and quails. 80 (Saying): "Eat of the good things We have provided for your sustenance, but commit no excess therein, lest My Wrath should justly descend on you: and those on whom descends My Wrath do perish indeed! 81 And verily, I am indeed Forgiving to him who repents, believes (in My Oneness, and associates none in worship with Me) and does righteous good deeds, and then remains constant in doing them, (till his death). 82 ۞ [When Moses was upon the Mount, God said,] "O Moses, why have you come with such haste from your people?" 83 He said: They are close upon my track. I hastened unto Thee, my Lord, that Thou mightest be well pleased. 84 (Allah) said: "We have tested thy people in thy absence: the Samiri has led them astray." 85 With great anger and sorrow, Moses returned to his nation. 'My nation' he said, 'did your Lord not make you a fine promise? Did the time of the covenant seem long to you? Or did you desire that the anger of your Lord should fall upon you so that you failed in your coming to my appointment' 86 They said, "We did not break our promise to you by our will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people [of Pharaoh], so we threw them [into the fire], and thus did the Samiri throw." 87 But then, [so they told Moses, the Samaritan] had produced for them [out of the molten gold] the effigy of a calf, which made a lowing sound; and thereupon they said [to one another,] "This is your deity, and the deity of Moses - but he has forgotten [his past] 88 Did they not see that it did not give them any answer, nor had it power to do them harm or bring them gain? 89
