۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
