The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A multitude of those of old 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And spreading shade, 30 and flowing water 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
