He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
