Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a lofty garden, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
