The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 facing one another. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
