۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 (When the people came to the temple and saw the broken idols) they asked each other, "Who has done this to our gods? He certainly is an unjust person". 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
