Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and the ten nights! 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
